Transforming excess fruit or fruit that is starting to go bad into a healthy snack for your family!
When I start to feel overwhelmed, I take shortcuts on the food I buy and prepare. Our Grandma’s don’t shutter at the thought of baking bread or putting a home cooked meal on the table after a busy day – why do we? Because it’s not quick and easy. It’s not at all faster to go out to eat than it is to prepare a home cooked meal. But it is easier.
So wouldn’t it be soooooooooo much easier to just buy a box of Fruit Roll-Ups? Sure, it would be easier. But shopping takes time too, and when you buy snacks it’s easier to mindless graze on them because it didn’t require any effort. It’s more than worth your time to empower yourself by mastering a way to use up what you have instead of letting it go to waste. All you need is a blender, fruit, honey, and an oven. That’s it! It takes just a few minutes to puree fruit and put it in the oven. Then you can move on with your day while the oven dehydrates the fruit. A homemade, wholesome healthy snack is so gratifying!
Ingredients for Homemade Peach Fruit Roll-Ups
- Peaches
- Honey
How to Make Homemade Peach Fruit Roll-Ups
- Preheat oven to lowest setting, most likely 150 – 170 degrees. Line 11 x 17 pan with silicone mat. (You can use saran wrap or parchment paper if you don’t have a silicone mat!)
- Peel and pit 5 peaches. Puree in a blender.
- Add honey until desired taste is reached. (It may require 2-4 tbsp, it just depends on how naturally sweet the peaches are.) Puree.
- Spread the peach puree over the silicone lined pan evenly.
- Dehydrate by placing in the oven for 4-6 hours. Could be more or less depending on the thickness of the fruit puree.
- Remove from heat once the fruit puree has dried into fruit leather! You’ll know it’s done when your finger doesn’t stick to it.
- Let cool before cutting into strips and storing.
How to Cut Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups
- If you bake using parchment paper, all you have to do is let the fruit leather cool and cut into strips using a scissors. Super easy!
- If you bake using a silicone baking mat, just transfer to parchment paper while the fruit leather is still warm and cut into strips after it’s cooled.
Tips for Making Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups
- My preferred non-stick method is to use a silicone baking mat. They are easy to store, use, and clean! But, if you don’t have one just use saran wrap or parchment paper. They work just the same!
- Depending on the thickness of your fruit puree, the edges of the fruit leather may not be as soft and chewy as the rest of the sheet. If that’s the case, just trim the edges off.
How to Store Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups
- Fruit Roll-Ups are easy to store! Just store in a sealed bag or container in the pantry. They will keep fresh for up to a week.
